Pop-up Classes, Elections and Board of Trustees: Student Association Meeting 1/31

By Angela McParland

The first Student Association meeting of the 2017 spring semester took place on Jan. 31. The meeting got started at 7:30 to allow students to attend both the MLK week panel “Reflections on Community” and the meeting. The agenda was sparse to start the semester, but there were a few key points to take note of:

  • Announcing the SA Spring Election. Nomination forms can be picked up starting February 14th and are due by March 3rd at 4pm. An open forum will be held on March 7th in place of the Student Association meeting and elections will be held on March 8th and 9th. Runoff elections will be held after spring break, if necessary.
  • Pop-up courses are starting this semester for the first time at St. Mike’s. This semester’s offerings are Black Lives Matter, White Privilege, and Organizing Social Change. Classes meet once a week starting February 6th and ending March 3rd. Contact nbk@smcvt.edu for more information or to sign up for the classes. Also look for our article on this coming out February 9th.
  • Seeking to place a student member on the Board of Trustees. A resolution was presented last semester but has been disputed due to vague language. The Student Association has since updated the resolution and presented it to the students. The updated version was passed and will be presented to the Board of Trustees for their next meeting in March. For more information, check out our article on this coming out February 9th.
